Health Squad provides free comprehensive sexual health education to schools and community groups around the Chicago area. The goal of these lessons is to increase individuals understanding, knowledge, and self-efficacy to make healthy decisions and to reduce risky behaviors. By providing education and increasing an individual's ability to make healthy decisions, we can  reduce their chances of contracting a STD, including HIV.


All health education and promotion services provided by Health Squad's are:

  • Evidence-based
  • Age and developmentally appropriate 
  • Culturally sensitive
  • Follow the National Sexuality Education Standards (NSES)
  • Follow the National Health Education Standards
  • Are LGBTQ inclusive 
  • Provide safe & supportive environments for ALL students


What topics are covered in comprehensive sexual health education?

The essential minimum content and skills for sexuality education, based on the National Sexuality Education Standards include:

  • Anatomy and Physiology: provides a foundation for understanding basic human functioning
  • Puberty and Adolescent Development: address a pivotal milestone for every person that has an impact on physical, social and emotional development
  • Identity: address several fundamental aspects of people's understanding of who they are
  • Pregnancy and Reproduction: address information about how pregnancy happens and decision-making to avoid a pregnancy
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV: provides both content and skills for understanding and avoiding STIs and HIV, including how STIs are transmitted, signs and symptoms and testing and treatment
  • Healthy Relationships: offers guidance to students on how to successfully navigate changing relationships among family, peers and partners. Special emphasis is given to the increasing use and impact of technology within relationships
  • Personal Safety: emphasizes the need for growing awareness, creating and maintenance of safe school environments for all students

past & current programming

Spring (April - June) 2019

Health Squad completed the organizations inaugural programming at Chicago Public School's Christopher Elementary School in June 2019.  At Christopher School, Health Squad provided 79 sixth through eighth grade students (including special education) students with comprehensive sexual health education. 


Program Results

  • Students increased their sexual health knowledge by an average of 16.5%
  • On average, students rated Health Squad's sexual health program a 4 out of 5!
  • Students rated their sexual health instructor 3 out 3!

Health Squad has been invited to return to Christopher Elementary School in Fall 2019 to provide programming to 3rd through 8th grades, and Special Education students in grades 6th - 8th!
